Slow start, Strong finish

That's how I would describe both my week and my run today. Both got off to kind of bad starts, but it ended up being a pretty good week all around with the highlight being a 5 mile run outside today.

Monday-For some reason, I was extremely sluggish and tired. I went to the gym and could not make myself run for more than .75 miles. I walked 3.25 miles to try and get something in, but it was not a good start to the week. I don't really know why I was so exhausted-the only thing I could think of was that I got too much sleep (about 9 hours) the night before, when I've been getting about 8 a night.

Tuesday-I was all ready to go and excited to run...then all the treadmills were taken! There are quite a bit of treadmills at my gym too and it was at 9:45 am, so it seemed like an odd time for them all to be occupied. I decided to do the eliptical instead and ended up doing 3 miles on there in just over an hour.

Wednesday-Finally, a decent run! I ran 3.5 miles and walked 1.5 for a total of 5 miles in 1 hour, 3 minutes. I stopped twice to walk .25 miles during the run.

Thursday-Did the yoga class at my gym, it was hard! We spent most of the class balancing on one leg and my butt was very sore after.

Today-Ran 5 miles straight!!! According to my Nike+, it took me just under 55 minutes. Not too bad for it being the first time running outside and the first time I've ever run that far without stopping.

The run got off to a really bad start: the wind was gusting and I was freezing in the mid 30's weather, Tia (my dog) was pulling and sniffing, and I chose the wrong way to run on the bike path-it still had tons of snow on it! At that point I was almost defeated, but I decided to turn around and try the other direction and it was perfectly clear. The one direction I went first is the town of Colonie, while the other way was the town of Niskayuna, and I guess Colonie just doesn't care about removing snow from the path! I also shortened up Tia's leash and she got into a great rhythm of running right next to me and following my speed. She was so well behaved for the rest of the run and kept looking up at me with her tongue hanging out like, "This is so much fun!". I definitely found my new running buddy. The sun also came out and it was beautiful. Between miles 3 and 4 I was literally smiling while running in the gorgeous sun and listening to Sarah Buxton on my ipod=)

It was a great feeling and I think I might have experienced my first "runner's high"! I'm so sore right now though-running outside definitely works some different muscles than running on the treadmill. Tia keeps giving me lots of love and kisses so I'm sure that's her way off telling me she wants to go again soon. The forecast looks nice, so hopefully next week I'll be able to continue running outside. Heather's right, outside>>>>>>treadmill running.

This weekend I won't be doing too much exercising besides walking around NYC. I may try and get some strength in but that's about it. Monday I'm going skiing, then Tuesday I'll resume the normal schedule.

Miles this week: 9 (I rounded the .75 down to .5)
Total miles: 58
